Learning languages is fun but sometimes difficult. I take 2 languages in this semester, they are Dutch and Italian. I love learning new languages, especially European languages. I notice that European languages like French, Dutch, and Italian have many rules in constructing sentences. Unlike English, each thing even has gender in European languages. For example, television in Italian is female, cinema are male, and so on. The main problem is that we cannot know directly whether the thing is male or female. It is learned by heart as the book said. Besides, we can also know by using dictionary.
I learned French as well when I was in the first semester. Besides having many rules, the way we pronounce the word is different with the written form, even it has certain voice to produce; that is why I think it is the most difficult language.
Now, I am enjoying learning Dutch and Italian. The lecturer in Dutch class is very kind and intelligent. He makes me understand every part of the materials. He is Indonesian so I feel easy to learn it. There is an Australian in this class and he told me that he felt difficult to learn Dutch because he had to do double translation for the lecturer uses Indonesian language to teach.
The lecturer in Italian class is really funny. His name is Fabio, he is native Italian. We love the way he teaches us because he always makes jokes in every meeting that do not make us boring when learning the language. However, it is quite difficult to understand what he speaks since his accent is very strong. He likes to add the hard sound in every English word he says. Sometimes I do not understand what he is talking about but I become more understand after the class proceeds for 3 meetings.
I have a big responsible in every week now. I have to remember all the rules in Dutch and Italian. Though it is difficult, I try to study hard understanding the rules for it is my own choice to learn two languages at the same time. However I do not consider it as a burden, I enjoy it very much. My intention is not about speaking the languages but understanding grammar. When I was 9 years old studying English for the first time, I learned grammar, not speaking or any other thing. So I am sure I am better at writing than speaking. Writing here means constructing sentences using a good grammar. I am more interested in learning it. Speaking can be learned by practicing and I tend to emphasize my skill on grammar.

Preparing Mid Exam for My Students
When I was asked to be one of the tutors in English Department, my lecturer said that we could do anything we wanted to decide what way we should teach the students. She said as well that we could give result based on whatever test we gave. Then I began to think what kind of test I was going to give them. I began to prepare anything for the first until the end of the meeting. I designed my own course outline although the realizing was not so successful.
I planned to have mid and final exam. This week my students and I prepared the thing for the mid exam. So I decided to assign them to make a blog and move their writings, which were done in the previous meetings, into their blog. They should choose one out of four topics to make it longer. We had 4 topics from the previous meetings; they were what love means, superstitions, Indonesian food, and idol. I guess they will choose the last one since I believe that it is very easy to write.
The deadline for the mid exam is next Friday, no later than 12 a.m. I am sure this kind of exam will not burden them for all things that they have to do is just moving their writings and write a one-page writing about what they have done before. I hope they like doing this kind of exam. I cannot wait to see their new writings. Some students write very well but they still have a problem in constructing a good sentence. I do hope that this writing class will help them in improving their writing skill.

Face Treatment: Egg White Mask
Women need to look after their physical beauty, especially face since it is very important for them. Most women in this modern era do a treatment in the beauty center. We can find so many beauty centers nowadays. The result will be very quick for they use technology and new innovation. However, it will be better for women to treat their faces naturally. There are so many natural and traditional ways to treat faces. Here, I have one of those tips:
Egg White Mask
1. Prepare an egg, break it and separate between egg white and egg yolk
2. Scramble the egg white until it becomes a foam
3. Smear the egg white foam on your face
4. Stick tissue to your face until it covers your whole face
5. Wait for half an hour until it is stiff
6. Remove tissue from your face
7. Clean your face with warm water, then continue with the cold water to minimize the pore
The result will not come directly. Do it regularly for once or twice a week. Have a nice try! :D

Refreshing Time
This week is a long weekend. Friday is Hari Raya Nyepi for Hindu so the holiday is from Friday to Sunday. I decided to go along with my boyfriend and his family. There were 6 people in a car; me, my boyfriend, his parents, and his two sisters. We went to the mall nearby, spending time and money for buying some stuff on Saturday. That day was the last day for my boyfriend’s parents in Jogja, they live in Bali and wanted to spend their holiday here. They are not Hindu because actually they are not native Balinese.
In the afternoon, we had lunch and went to the mall. We spent more than 3 hours to go around and find something interesting to buy. We bought this and that, and finally we have spent much money, it was more than a million rupiahs! Realizing the time was over, we went to the airport in a hurry. We should check in at 6.30 p.m. and fortunately we were not late.
We were certainly sad to let them go back to Bali. The holiday was over. The plane took off at 8.20 p.m. but we left from the airport earlier because we had to turn the rent car back. We had dinner first at a restaurant. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food because it took long time to be served and the taste was not so delicious. But that was not a problem because we were happy of being together all day long.
They took me home at 9 p.m. and they turned the rent car back. I was so happy today to spend time with them. It seemed that I was with my own family. I love them all,,,

My Pitiful Friend
It is a story of my friend, my pitiful friend. I will not say which friend of mine is on a pity. Here, I do not mean to insult anyone but if someone is offended, I would say really sorry.
I have a close friend and I have a pity on her. I admit that she talks more than other people, she is talkative and sometimes annoying. That is why my other friends in class stay away from her, even they mock her. She is really pitiful but I think she does not care about that.
I like to be together with her. Although she is talkative, she talks something important and useful. I learn so much from her. I become knowing anything because she tells me.
Once, I have ever stayed away from her as well. I defamed her with my other friends at class. But there was the time when I had to be with her. Soon I realized that she is a good friend. She gives me a lot of information that I do not know. Now, I become liking her and I promise not to defame her anymore.
Actually, she realizes that some friends always talk about her. But I believe that she is such a confident girl that never considers what other people say about her. I state once again that she is not that annoying. You can learn anything from her because she is global-minded.
So far, some of my friends at class still defame her. But I am in her side now. We are often together to share about my study that I do not understand because she is also smart and clever. I also like to spend time together with her, having lunch, chatting, or even joking.
I hope they will soon realize that she is a nice person. She is a good friend who always gives useful information for us. She has broad knowledge and she is able to help me in any case. I hope as well that she will be a successful person, so that they can regret of what they have done to her.

An Afternoon Meeting
This is a meeting for preparing student service that is going to be held from July to August this year. It has been held for more than 3 times. Sometimes it is boring for me because actually all things that we talk about are almost the same thing. We are going to do the student service on July but we have to prepare anything from now. It is not easy to set it up all. Fortunately, the leader of the group is wise enough and good at being a leader. I guess he has experienced in becoming involved in some activities before.
Today the meeting is arranged at 2.30 in the afternoon. Honestly, I do not know all the members of the team because it is my second meeting while they have had more than 3 meetings and they are from the same department. There are even some of them who are in a relationship. It is no problem for me, I understand it.
So, what we discussed this afternoon was about the programs that we are going to carry out. Actually the meeting only took a short time, around 30 minutes but some people were late. We have decided that people who come late will get charge of 5000 rupiahs. This rule is fair, I think, since they will be motivated not to come late. Being disappointed that the meeting was held for only 30 minutes, I went home directly. I was so annoyed that some people were late and the meeting was not so conducive and ended within 30 minutes.
Talking about the place of the student service, it is going to be in a village in Selomartani, Sleman. Actually it is not a real village. The facilities and people there are quite modern. But we hope we can run this activity smoothly for we intend to improve and develop the village.

Love at the First Sight
When I stepped on my campus for the first time, I was amazed by the marching band performance in the ceremony for welcoming new students. It was so beautiful that everybody couldn’t turn around from it. I didn’t know why. It was I who was excessive or it was indeed amazing. Since that time, I intended to join this activity in campus; we called it UKM (Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa).
Few months later, I made it true by joining this activity. I registered and did the placement test. In marching band there are 3 sections, they are: percussion, color guard, and brass. Honestly, I wanted to be color guard player, the section which plays some equipments like flags, rifle, saber, and etc. And finally, I was accepted as the color guard. I was so happy and I promised to be serious. There were 8 students joining this activity who were my classmates. They were accepted in different section with me.
It ran well for about few months. But it was revealed that many students quit from this activity. I admitted that this kind of activity seized more time. It also needed endurance. I did not deny as well that this kind of activity made people exhausted and they had to sacrifice their time and energy. So, I think people who could join this activity are not common people. At last, my classmates also quit and there were only 2 students in my department who joined it, me and my friend, Mayang. We worked harder and harder to join the inauguration. A couple of months later, we were truly the members of Marching Band Universitas Gadjah Mada after being inaugurated. It was not easy to get it all because we had to do some efforts and it was so hard.
After being inaugurated, my really first performance was the celebration of Marching Band Universitas Gadjah Mada’s birthday, it was some time on April 2010 if I am not mistaken. Then, the management of my band decided to join the most important event in Jakarta. So, we had to prepare for about 8 months. It was so challenging and sometimes boring.............TO BE CONTINUED

December 2010
Let me tell you about something.
It is something that was happened more than a year ago. I joined marching band competition in Jakarta, it is called Grand Prix Marching Band. It is held annually and some schools and universities in Indonesia usually join this competition. It is an important event for all marching bands in Indonesia.
I left for Jakarta a week before the day of the competition. We were all more than 90 people consisted of players and crews, in 3 buses. We had to be quarantined for few days in Jakarta. I could say that this quarantine was very severe because we actually have not reached the target. What target? So, in showing our performance, we had to prepare 12 minutes that consists of about 3 or 4 movements. We had 4 movements plus percussion feature. In performing it, we should also have a theme. We chose Tom and Jerry at that time. So, from movement 1 to movement 4 told about the story of the theme. We had the characters of Tom and Jerry, which were characterized by my friends, Dita and Santi.
Talking about the quarantine, we had it for about 3 days. We had to practice from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. We were accustomed to practicing for more than 12 hours in a day. All we did were just playing the 4 movements and drills. We did it over and over again. Of course we felt bored but we realized that we have not done it well that was why we always repeated the same thing every day.
The day came. We were totally ready for the 12-minute performance. I was so nervous and trembling when I entered the stage. It was held in Tenis Indoor, Istora Senayan Jakarta which was very big, wide, and cold. I couldn’t stop praying and when the music was played, I tried to forget my nervousness and perceive it. Finally, 12 minutes was nothing for me, I couldn’t say that 12 minutes was too long because it was happened quickly. I was so relieved after leaving the stage.
We had to wait for the announcement for about 3 hours. When it came, I had a seat with a special person in my band, he is my boyfriend. We couldn’t wait to know who the winners were. We were sure that we would be one of the winners because our coaches said that we performed well and optimally. Marching Band Universitas Gadjah Mada was called as the second place. YES, that was my band! We applaud and cheer happily. Finally, we were the winner. We were not disappointed because of being the second winner, we were proud of our selves. Without winning the second place, we were still the winner for ourselves.

December 2011
Let me tell you about another something.
It was just the same as what happened on December 2010. I joined marching band competition, again. As I said before that it was held annually and was one of the most important events for marching band enjoyers. As usual, we left for Jakarta a week before the day of the competition and we had to be quarantined for few days. Again, it was more severe than the last year because we were not serious and we have not yet reached the target that was determined. During the quarantine, we were woken up in the middle of the night to practice and have dress rehearsal. Our schedule of dress rehearsal was at 3 in the morning so we had to practice for a couple of hours before 3 a.m. In the first day of quarantine, we didn’t even sleep in a day but then we were given more time to take a rest.
The difference between last year and this year competition was that my boyfriend did not join the same band with me. He joined another band in Kalimantan called Marching Band Sangkakala. He wanted to experience new things so he went to Kalimantan 2 months before the competition. Actually, we had to prepare for this competition about 8 months. But for those who have been expert on it could prepare less than 8 months. My boyfriend has ever joined this competition 4 times so he only needed 2 months to prepare it all.
When the day came, we were busy preparing this and that. Our theme was reformation. I know that this theme seemed serious but we had message for people about it. Our performing schedule was at around 4 o’clock. As I did last year, I tried to forget my nervousness and start enjoying the music. Again, 12 minutes went quickly.
Another difference with the last year competition was that my mother and brother came to see me in Jakarta. I was so happy they could have time for me to support what I did. So, I sat with them waiting for the announcement. My boyfriend sat in another seat with his new friends. Unfortunately, we were not as luck as last year. We were in the fourth place this year. I realized that we did not perform optimally. We were quite disappointed but that was game, there must be the winner and the loser. I think that was going to be my last performance in Grand Prix Marching Band. I am going to continue my study seriously and reach my dreams to make them true.

Friday in the Evening
We took her to the station, who was going to go home. Leaving for another city was sometimes hard for me and him.
We were really sad, that we tried hard to restrain our tears. Spending 5 days with her was the best time we have ever had.
We used to be together anytime & anywhere, that we couldn’t be apart. Living separately from her was like a sort of misery.
We really liked to eat the foods, which she always cooked for us. Tasting such these delicious foods was so delightful.
We used to love her; we really love her now; and we will always love her. Being together again is truly all what we want.
My mother…..

Conversation, Debate, Discussion?
I got many lessons today, having a serious conversation or it was more suitable to be called a debate. I am not going to talk about what things we talk about but it has something to do with religion. It is a sensitive topic for everyone. People have their own choice about religion. They have their own idea and opinion about this as well as me.
So, the debate or whatever it is called took few hours to talk. There were 3 persons debating and actually we did not find any solution until we had to stop the discussion without any agreement. Honestly, I know little about religion so I tried to discuss it with one of my classmate after having that sort of conversation with other 2 persons. He is really good at it and I trust him so much.
The topic is so complex that actually there is no wrong opinion about this. We see the thing in a different way, that is why we do not find any solution. But actually, there is no person wrong in giving opinions about the topic. The hard thing to me is trying to accept that their opinions are also true while I still think that what they talk about is nonsense.
I still have to learn more about this since I am not really good at it.

Irony
Irony… Yes, it must be happened on every person in this world in different case and situation. Why is it irony for me? Let see, I always feel difficult to begin writing. However, I teach writing tutorial class for the first-year students on their second semester. How could I teach them writing while I myself feel difficult to write?
When I am teaching them, I always try to be someone who does not get difficulty in writing. I always try to give them some tips in order to feel easy to write. I believe the tips I give them are meaningful and easy to be applied. But the problem is that I cannot apply my own tips on me. I do not know why, I tried hard but I failed.
I always think about it every day and sometimes I realize that God has his own way to help me in writing. By teaching writing class, I am motivated to learn more about writing and try to avoid the obstacles in it. As a matter of fact, indeed I have to learn how to write well and then deliver the knowledge for them.
In class, I know that they get great difficulty in writing. They ask me this and that and I try to answer all their questions wisely. I am honest to say that actually I also get the difficulty and I tell them my way to get rid of the obstacles. The most important way is do not be lazy to begin to write although we do not know what we are going to write. Sitting calmly and thinking deeply is a good beginning way to find a good topic in writing.

Interviewing
Few days ago, I interviewed foreigner who is my uncle. His name is Jeje, he comes from Australia. I asked him some questions about the way people in Australia serve food for their guest.
In Australia, it is not common for some people to serve a lot of food for their guests. He learnt from my family that people in Indonesia serve a lot food, especially when Idul Fitri day comes. I observed that he was a little bit shock when he knew that my grandmother serve a lot snacks. He also stated that the food served in Australia is not spicy, while in Indonesia, especially at my house, the most food are spicy.
In the weekend, people usually invite their friends to hold a barbeque party in their backyard. People who are invited usually man, not woman. And they usually wear short and T-shirt while doing the barbeque.

Nothing
I am actually nothing for them, maybe. They are such a kind of superior people, and I?? Maybe inferior for them. I just like the way they are talking and discussing something. They see a certain case in this way but I see a certain case in that way, we never come to an agreement. That is why I always keep silent and speak no single word. Unfortunately, they are right and sometimes I am wrong. I think I begin to admire them. They way they speak, the way they behave, the way they think, I love them! I have just realized about it since I was in the second year of my study in university. I have no one to share, sometimes I am embarrassed of myself if I tell it to someone else. It is possible that I am not as good as they are but it is me, the real me. I just try to do what I ought to do and I realize that I cannot follow the things. It is not my place, it is over there and I can never reach it because it is too late. I cannot say “better being late than never”, it is no use anymore because it is extremely very late. I just want to congratulate them of their success in doing everything, but remember that I am not that weak, I will always struggle to reach what I supposed to reach, MY DREAMS….
My Students and I
My first student was a junior high school student. Her name was Tata. It was my first teaching experience, so I was very excited in our first meeting. She was nice but not really smart, she was in average.
My second student was Kevin. Oh my God, he always made me angry. It seemed to me that I hate to teach him. But actually it was not that serious. He was just bad at vocabulary and something like that. So it was my big duty to make him good at English.
My third student was Sheila. She was on the 3rd of junior high school, the same grade with my first student. She was such a smart student. She always asked me some questions that sometimes I was confused to answer them.
My fourth student was a thin and tall girl. Her name was Nuris, she was also in average. Let’s talk a little bit about her house! It was quite big and beautiful. It was such a common house in the foreground but it was big and beautiful in the background and there were a lot of ethnic interiors. I love them!
That is all of my first experience in teaching and I am trusted to teach 4 students. Can you imagine how happy I am? Because I think that perhaps I am trusted to teach only one or two students. I do hope that I will get more students in the future.
